Walmart is leaving picking online orders to robots. The supermarket giant is testing a roboticised system in its shops, with trolleys collecting groceries ordered online.

Walmart has set up a department next to its shop for online orders in Salem, Massachusetts. Mobile trolleys collect groceries there and drive them to employees, who grab the orders and hand them over to the customer.

Alphabot

The order picker Alphabot comes from Alert Innovation. According to Walmart, the Alphabot can pick the vast majority of groceries. Customers only need to pick up fresh products themselves in the shop.

More time for service and sales

Speaking to Yahoo Tech, Walmart says that thanks to the Alphabot, there will be more time for staff to focus on service and sales. "The two parts that staff say they enjoy most," he said.
