A parcel depot will be placed in Utrecht neighbourhoods. The idea is supported by residents themselves, who could vote on different ideas to reduce the number of traffic movements in their neighbourhoods.
The initiative comes from the municipality of Utrecht and Goedopweg. These selected a number of ideas to deliberately encourage different travel in the neighbourhood. The parcel depot was chosen as the favourite by 40 per cent of the two thousand voters. Residents or last-mile carriers can come here to collect their parcels.
The neighbourhood depots will be located in Utrecht West and Utrecht Noordwest. The municipality wants to investigate how this depot works best. For instance, which locations are suitable and what are the best opening hours? According to GroenLinks councillor Lot van Hooijdonk, a train station in the north of Utrecht might be a suitable location for the central district depot.
