At Logistica 2017, the Scalas Move, Store, Pick and Deliver, showcase smart and affordable solutions for an effective logistics process. At the Scala Move, the focus is on fast and effective order picking of large volumes.

Ask any retailer where the key to a successful logistics process lies, and chances are the answer will be: in a fast, error-free and efficient order picking process. At the Scala Move, trade fair visitors will be shown various concepts that make such a fast and efficient order picking process possible.

Various principles will be demonstrated during the demonstrations; from the latest high-lift order picking truck and a compact side loader, for handling long goods, to an autonomous order picker that follows the operator and a compact AGV that brings goods to the man.

Pick by weight

An innovative solution, where a weighing system is integrated into the fork of an order picking truck, shows visitors how picking errors can be reduced during order picking. With this Pick by weight concept, after each pick, the weight gain on the fork is checked and compared with the respective weight of the order line. If the weights do not match, the order picker receives an error message on his scanwatch and the error can be corrected at the pick location. Recovery costs are thus kept to an absolute minimum.

Participating suppliers: Ravas Europe, A-Safe, Mabo-Lifting Netherlands, Still Intern Transport, Wewo Europe, VeLa and Fromm Netherlands.

Security

The collected goods are foiled using a smart wrapping robot, so that the goods can be safely shipped to the desired destination. Of course, safety is also ensured during the processes shown. To this end, the Scala is equipped with collision protection and physical separations between pedestrians and material handling equipment, among other things.

Expert commentary

The demonstrations on the Scalas last about 20 minutes each and are repeated every hour. An expert consultant from the VeLa (Association of Logistics Advisors) provides commentary on each demonstration. From the demo area, fair visitors have a good view of the simulated warehouse situation. Moreover, the processes demonstrated are shown in close-up on large screens. Of course, after each demonstration there will be plenty of time to discuss the demonstrated (sub)processes in more detail.
