Sam Houwen has been appointed chief commercial officer (CCO) at Quicargo, the logistics intermediary between companies needing cargo space and carriers with space to spare.
The role of CCO is new at Quicargo, which has been operating in the Netherlands and the German Ruhr region since 2016. Houwen will take charge of the sales & marketing, operations, finance and HR departments. Under his leadership, Quicargo should grow into a scalable online platform for freight transport, with the platform being rolled out to Germany and Belgium in early 2020.
In his previous position, Houwen worked as CEO at Quick Parking, which provides airport parking services in six countries. Houwen took care of expanding the platform so that customers could arrange their parking services entirely online.
The transition to online is also taking off in logistics, Houwen believes. "In the logistics sector, more than ninety per cent of all shipments are still arranged offline (by phone), but there is a slow transition underway towards more online. Quicargo is benefiting from this transition with its online proposition and has gained a leading position in a relatively short time. I look forward to expanding its reach. There is still a lot to be gained in terms of efficiency of freight transport within Europe."
