Supermarket chain PLUS and the municipality of Oss need more time to reach an agreement on the construction of a mega distribution centre. The parties were hoping for a green light before the end of spring, but that turns out to be too optimistic.

PLUS wants to build a central distribution centre to replace the four current distribution centres. Initially, the company was aiming at Tiel as a central location. Due to a ruling by the Council of State, this proved practically impossible. PLUS then moved to Oss. At Vorstengrafdonk industrial estate, a 40,000-square-metre building is to be built to house all the supermarket chain's long-life products.

'Gigantic project

Negotiations between the supermarket chain and the municipality of Oss have been going on for months, but it has not yet led to an agreement. According to alderman Frank den Brok, the parties need more time to agree. "It is of course a gigantic project," Den Brok told the Brabants Dagblad. "In terms of complexity, but also just in terms of size. The talks are still in full swing and I have every confidence in a good outcome." The councillor hopes that all permits will still be in place during the summer.

PLUS does not communicate date

A PLUS spokesperson said there was basically no delay. "We are busy discussing the right permits. We have deliberately chosen not to communicate moments when we expect certain steps in the process. That way we also don't have to keep confronting our employees with a different date."
