Electronics giant Coolblue has extended the return period of orders to thirty days. Items can be sent back for free within that period. Previously, this period was fourteen days. This is noted by trade magazine Twinkle following a change in Coolblue's Returns FAQ.
With this, Coolblue follows the example of competitor Bol.com, which has already applied a return period of thirty days since 2012. Many other online retailers also apply a longer return period than the legally required fourteen days for distance selling. Some etailers go the extra mile. Zalando, for instance, works with a return period of one hundred days. At IKEA, Decathlon and IKEA, customers even have a year to think about their purchase. There is a strategy behind this: consumers who have a product for longer would become more attached to it and eventually not return it.
