Trade shows Logistica Next and ICT&Logistics at Royal Jaarbeurs from 5 to 7 November 2024

Utrecht, 1 November 2024 - The need to qualitatively and quantitatively exchange more data within the logistics sector is high. This topic is the focus of the ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next trade fairs. Corien den Ouden, exhibition manager: "Many companies in the logistics sector are collecting the right data. Today, data is exchanged in many different ways and forms. For further innovation in the logistics sector, it is crucial that a good and, if possible, standardised data exchange system is quickly established. Sebastian Piest, researcher at the University of Twente, shares his insights on this during ICT&Logistics. In addition, chain owners sign a declaration of intent during the trade fair: 'Towards a standard core set of primary data'." ICT&Logistics and Logistica Next will take place from 5 to 7 November 2024 in Royal Jaarbeurs.

Embarking on an AI journey together: ensure you have a good idea and usable data
“Any company wishing to get started with artificial intelligence (AI) must, at the very least, have a good idea and clean data,” says Sebastian Piest. “Industry organisations evofenedex and TLN carry out a biennial survey, which consistently shows that data quality is below par. If you want to get started on an AI project, you must first clean up the data. With a small project, it might still work, but when you scale up, things still go wrong. And that’s a shame, because it means people on the shop floor lose their trust in AI; and as a company, you’ve wasted a lot of money. Incidentally, getting data in order is quite a mammoth task. Incidentally, you can now use AI to help with the cleaning process.” Nevertheless, Piest emphasises that the logistics sector is still only at the very beginning of large-scale AI implementation in logistics processes. “It won’t be the case that the models make all sorts of decisions and set processes in motion on their own. Human supervision will always be required. That’s laid down by law.”

Logistics chain stakeholders sign a letter of intent for a standard core set of primary data
On 7 November, during the trade fair, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Logistics Top Sector, TKI Dinalog, Connekt, Transport and Logistics Netherlands, the Uniform Transport Foundation, the Dutch Association of Logistics and Transport IT Suppliers and Statistics Netherlands will sign the letter of intent for a standard core set of primary data. The parties aim to establish comparable primary data to resolve issues from different perspectives and of varying complexity. Establishing a primary dataset and agreeing on how that data can be shared offers many benefits for both the business community and the government, as well as other stakeholders in transport and logistics. Herman Wagter, Top Sector Logistics, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management: “Almost everyone is looking for more or less the same up-to-date data: the people on the ground have it. A simple standard will make it affordable for IT service providers to supply it. And that will bring major benefits for the sector and for Dutch industry.”
