Logistic Support Ermi (LSE) is opening a third distribution centre in Venlo. The logistics service provider would prefer to organise its logistics activities in one location, but that is 'almost impossible' in logistics hotspot Venlo.

So says managing director and owner Erik Michorius to De Limburger. LSE will handle the distribution of medical devices for Swedish company Mediplast. The logistics provider already has two distribution centres in Venlo, where it handles logistics for web shops. However, there was insufficient space at these two locations for the new customer. It therefore moved to a third distribution centre at the container port in Venlo. The Ankerkade in Venlo has space for 625 pallets and 1,500 pick locations.

In the ideal situation, Micorius would centralise its logistics activities. "However, that is almost impossible in the Venlo region at the moment. The costs for land and new construction are so high that this is unaffordable for a company without investors," the director told the newspaper.

More small and medium-sized logistics companies in the region would run into this problem, Micorius says. "In my network, I hear from entrepreneurs that they have two or three branches that they would like to accommodate in one location. For them too, this is difficult, if not impossible."
