Lidl is expanding its e-commerce centre in Venlo by 40,000 square metres a year after completion. The revamped XXL distribution centre will cover an area of 110,000 square metres after the expansion.
Lidl's distribution centre in Venlo has been operational since 2017. Here it handles the storage and transhipment of non-food items. Due to its growth in Europe, it is said to be in need of expansion already now. From the revamped warehouse, it will supply several distribution centres in Europe. Nunner Logistics is responsible for the logistics operation there on behalf of Lidl.
Lidl has signed an agreement with Next Level Development to develop and realise the warehouse. The expansion will be located on the adjacent plot, with Wijnen Bouw Someren taking care of the construction of the building, with completion scheduled for July 2019.
BREEAM 'Outstanding'
During construction, the parties are aiming for the sustainability label BREEAM 'Outstanding'. Solar panels will be installed on the roof, no fossil fuel will be used and the building will be lit with LED.
