Jumbo can barely keep up with demand for home delivery in some areas. The supermarket chain therefore wants to open more delivery hubs and increase capacity in distribution centres.
Since its launch in 2014, sales from Jumbo's webshop have risen sharply every year. In several areas, demand for home delivery continues to exceed available capacity. "As a result, Jumbo is running up against the limits of its current delivery model," states the mass retailer.
Jumbo has been arranging delivery from centralised hubs for several months, with delivery hubs already operational in the Amsterdam, Den Bosch and Zeeland regions. One in the Utrecht region will follow later this year.
Further expansion of the number of hubs is high on the agenda, according to Jumbo. The capacity of E-Fulfilment Centres (EFC) will also be increased. "This delivery model is more efficient and sustainable than home delivery via shops. Moreover, it offers better opportunities to scale up effectively where necessary and serve customers in densely populated urban areas."
