Logistics service provider Fiege will take over Zalando's distribution centre in Brieselang, Germany, from 1 April 2019. Fiege will deploy the DC for several customers. The 1,000 current employees will join the new owner.

German media report. With an area of 30,000 square metres, the logistics centre in Brieselang is one of Zalando's smallest sites in Germany. By comparison, the centres in Lahr, Mönchengladbach and Erfurt, with an area of 130,000 square metres, are four times larger.

Opportunities for Zalando limited in dc Brieselang

Capacity constraints had been a challenge for Zalando for some time. Only a relatively small part of the stock could be stored in Brieselang.

"Zalando offers its customers an almost unlimited selection of 300,000 fashion and lifestyle items. We therefore reached capacity limits in Brieselang. In addition, modern automation technologies, which are standard in our other logistics centres, could only be installed to a limited extent," explains David Schröder of Zalando.

Conversion to multi-user centre

Conversion to a logistics centre for Fiege, which has 185 locations in Europe, provided the solution.

"We want to operate Brieselang as a multi-user centre with new business and thus additional customers besides Zalando," says Christoph Mangelmans, Managing Director Fashion & Online Retail at Fiege. "Together with the experienced employees in Brieselang, we want to do everything we can for this new opportunity for a long-term perspective and to further develop the location."
