Despite the fact that the UK has not yet officially left the European Union, the consequences are already well felt. According to research by business association Evofenedex a quarter of companies are already suffering the consequences of the Brexit.

A total of 120 companies were questioned in the interest group's survey. The main reason for the disruption that already exists is the great uncertainty: as a result, investments and decisions are postponed.

So which sectors will be affected varies. Companies with quick products such as fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants face significantly fewer problems than trading partners with longer contracts, such as medicines or medical equipment.

Yet this does not mean that fast products will be less affected in the long run. There are fears within the flower market that import duties, new customs regulations and controls will affect the market significantly, and that the British will eventually seek refuge in East Africa. A total of some 800 million was taken from growers and flower exporters by the British Isles in 2015.

The UK is the Netherlands' third largest trading partner. In 2015, 28 billion euros worth of goods were exported to the UK, compared to imports of 21 billion. Trade provides jobs for 300,000 Dutch people.
