Belron, the parent group of Carglass, has invested 35 million euros in a European distribution centre. The new building replaces five old distribution centres in Belgium.

Belron now handles its logistics for Europe from the premises in Bilzen, just across the Belgian border near Maastricht. The site covers 43,000 square metres and accommodates 300,000 car windows and six million parts from some 300 suppliers.

800 branches

The company, which focuses on vehicle glass repair and replacement, supplies most of its European customers and locations from the distribution centre. Orders placed with Belron in Bilzen before 5 p.m. can be delivered to around 800 branches within eight hours.

Centralisation

Belron previously operated from five warehouses in Hasselt and Genk. The new building replaces these warehouses. By centralising its logistics operations, Belron saves 1,500 vehicle movements a year.

Focus on staff

According to Belron, 97 per cent of employees have moved with it to the new location, a percentage the car glass specialist is pleased with. "We have invested a lot in innovative work processes for the benefit of employee welfare," explains Supply Chain Director Tim Berx: "Our employees have always been our greatest asset. We wanted to be able to guarantee them the most optimal working environment." The European distribution centre has room for 250 employees.
