Blokker wants to transfer all logistics processes to one location. It will therefore close its e-commerce distribution centre in Gouda next year. The Geldermalsen location will be converted into an omnichannel distribution centre.
Friday it was announced that Blokker will handle logistics for both the online and offline channels from Geldermalsen. In this way, it hopes to save costs over time. By centralising the fulfilment, Blokker can also operate shorter delivery times. In the summer of 2019, the retail chain expects to be able to deliver from the renovated distribution centre.
E-commerce DC Gouda closes doors
The Gouda location will close its doors on 1 August 2019. A striking move, as Blokker only moved into this e-commerce DC in 2015. The e-fulfilment centre in Gouda employs 49 people. Blokker has agreed to offer the majority of these employees a job in the refurbished DC in Geldermalsen. It is still unclear how many redundancies will take place.
DC in Mijdrecht to Hudson's Bay
Last year, it already said goodbye to the distribution centre in Mijdrecht. No fewer than 800 jobs disappeared from the distribution centre in Mijdrecht as a result of the operation.
