Amazon wants to start storing goods under water. Earlier, the e-commerce giant was granted a patent for a flying distribution centre, now for a waterproof underwater warehouse.

That underwater warehouse should look like this:

With a so-called 'depth control devise', the weight of the parcel can be determined remotely, causing it to float to the surface at the desired time. Amazon wants to place the underwater warehouses in natural or artificial wetlands.

It is unclear when Amazon will build the warehouses. The retailer frequently files patent applications on concepts that will not be realised in the short term. Back in 2015, for instance, it was granted a patent for 3D printing products in vans. This was followed in 2016 by a patent on a flying warehouse, where drones developed by Amazon can pick up parcels in this zeppelin.
