Stockspots, the Airbnb for warehousing, is also launching in Belgium. Belgian companies with storage space available can now offer it to companies in need via the online platform Stockspots.
For its launch on the Belgian market, Stockspots has partnered with Montea. In addition to a financial investment, the real estate player offers Stockspots access to its network and knowledge of the Belgian market.
Stockspots was launched in the Netherlands at the end of last year with the idea of making better use of warehouse space. The online platform matches parties that have storage space available with parties that (temporarily) need extra storage space. It also handles invoicing internally, and users on the platform get real-time stock and shipment information and fullfilment services can be purchased.
Disruptive innovation
Montea is launching the platform in Belgium today, and the real estate group expects to have a supply of 100 warehouses with available space already this autumn . Stockspots and Montea are targeting both small and large companies. "The world is changing rapidly and logistics has to follow," says Peter Demuynck, cco Montea. "For example, there are more and more companies that do not need a large warehouse, but a storage place for just a few pallets. And not for nine years, but for a few weeks or months, and preferably as close to a very specific location as possible. It is to this kind of disruptive innovation that our logistics sector is in need."

Need due to lack of space
In Belgium, moreover, space is said to be increasingly scarce. The most sustainable building is therefore the one that does not need to be built, Demuynck argues. "Our country no longer has much leeway when it comes to creating additional physical storage space. Space is becoming scarce. And so we are forced to optimise existing space much more and better."
